Website Live Oak School District Superintendent Grades K-12 2,100 StudentsHazard, Young, Attea & Associates
The Live Oak School District was established in 1872. As a diverse community in the heart of Santa Cruz County, our mission is to prepare preschool through 12th grade students to make meaningful contributions in a rapidly changing world through engagement in academically rigorous curriculum within a collaborative, innovative learning environment.
The Live Oak School District currently serves approximately 2,100 students in three elementary schools, one middle school, one K-8 independent charter school, one charter high school, and one alternative school. The student population is 50% Hispanic, 31% White, 19% Other, 33% English learner, and 60% Socioeconomically disadvantaged.
We are very proud of our schools, teachers, students, and community and are especially excited by developments in recent years to further support our students’ experiences. In 2016, Live Oak renewed a parcel tax to support school libraries, art, music, science, and physical activities; this fund will provide approx. $500,000 to schools for these purposes every year. Also in 2016, a new Boys and Girls club opened at Shoreline Middle School that is a result of a partnership between the Live Oak School District, Boys and Girls Club, and the County of Santa Cruz. In 2013, Live Oak was designated a “Playful City USA” community by KaBOOM! for its commitment to childhood play; and in 2013, Live Oak Elementary School won an Imagination Playground through a KaBOOM! grant/Facebook vote. These activities demonstrate the investment and excitement about living and learning in Live Oak that we hope will continue.
