The Chappaqua Central School District is a nationally renowned suburban school system characterized by highly motivated students, a broadly educated and talented staff, and an actively involved parent community. A deep commitment to a broad and rich curriculum has traditionally defined the Chappaqua schools.
Close to 4,000 students attend three K-4th grade elementary schools, two middle schools for grades 5-8, and a grade 9-12 high school. The mission of the district is to create a learning community where students, parents, and staff join in the pursuit of academic excellence and personal growth in a caring environment.
Chappaqua’s instructional staff numbers 378; 352 hold a master’s degree and 16 have doctoral degrees. Teachers and administrators participate in literacy professional development programs in partnership with Columbia University. They work and learn side-by-side in Chappaqua teachers’ classrooms with Teachers College staff developers, analyze student work to inform teaching practice, and attend week-long reading and writing institutes in the summer. With the knowledge that the advancement of learning communities is at the heart of all staff development, the district is engaged in a broad menu of ongoing opportunities and institutes, including teacher action research, in-service workshops, teacher-led learning teams, and an annual Learning Symposium.
