The Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) seeks a dynamic new principal for its state-chartered selective high school, Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST). The school was recently ranked America’s Best High School by Newsweek magazine.
The principal directs and is accountable for the planning, assessment, instructional leadership, communication, community relations, and safety and administrative management required to manage the instructional and special programs, organization, co-curricular and extracurricular activities, and facilities of the high school.
TJHSST is the product of a partnership forged between the business community and Fairfax County Public Schools to improve education in science, mathematics, and technology. This unique Fairfax County Public School, in the suburbs of Washington, DC, offers a comprehensive program that focuses on scientific, mathematical, and technological fields. The core skills and values infused throughout the curriculum emphasize and promote critical inquiry and research, problem solving skills, intellectual curiosity, and social responsibility. As the regional Governor’s School for Science and Technology in Northern Virginia, the school serves applicants from five different participating school districts: Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William counties, as well as the city of Falls Church. Of the 457 students in the Class of 2016, 162 are National Merit Semi-Finalists, and an additional 210 are National Merit Commended students.
FCPS is working with a national search firm to fill this position. A regionally competitive salary and benefit package will be offered. Seven years of education experience, at least three of which must be at an administrative level are required, as well as eligibility for licensure as a high school principal in Virginia. Experience as a high school principal and a strong academic background in science and/or technology is preferred.
